Jesus taught that we should do unto others as we would like for them to do to us. This teaching when lived out makes marriage a very happy experience. One example why the “golden rule” is so important is when dealing with marital fidelity. No man likes to be cheated on, so all men understand the importance of faithfulness to the marital vow. Marital faithfulness becomes even more important as couples get old because this is the time when many men divorce their aging spouse and married a younger woman. For this reason we are instructed not to forsake the wife of our youth.
Proverbs5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
5:19 [Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? 5:21 For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
